At last, our idol Dave Smith produced a new CM4 PROCESS file with the
critical double-metal parameters.  It was promptly placed on CM4LIB disks
(both LIBSTAT 104 and ICDESIGN 59A) in the daily disk build October 23.
No more fatal work stoppage in MCCHECK and WIDEN!  All SCAMPER simulation
should be redone, though.  Dave is now working on MOTOROLA PROCESS file.
Here is a close look at the various process files on LIBSTAT 104 disk:

- CM4      PROCESS  (last updated October 15, 1985)
- HONEYWL  PROCESS  (last updated May 28, 1985)
- MOTOROLA PROCESS  (a venir)

Only a few moments after the new CM4 PROCESS file was released, the Lee
Iacocca-class manager Jeff Bennett panicked because he could not run
3.02 SCAMPER with the new CM4 PROCESS file.  Jeff was seeking an early
settlement with the Bob White-class librarian Go S. Sunatori, who flatly
rejected the request without a special $1,000 lump sum payment.  Here is
the error message Jeff (Jeff's student, in fact) got from 3.02 SCAMPER:

Dave says 3.03 SCAMPER works fine.  Go discovered that the swithing point
of INV cell (P/N = 2/1) has changed from 2.42 volts to 2.34 volts.

Does 3.03 EXTRACT require a 10M machine?  Perry Pavlovic, after bugging
Delfin Montuno and even Delfin's predecessor Rick Epplett, came to a firm
conclusion October 23 that 3.03 EXTRACT could be run on his 8M machine.
Too late for those who have already acquired a 10M machine just to
extract CMOS4 cells/macros!!

John Roth made a headline in the Business section of The Ottawa Citizen
October 17 after a speech at the third Canadian Club of Ottawa Luncheon
Meeting which the CM4NEWS Publisher attended.  The headline reads:
"Ivory Tower Inhibiting Competitiveness: Roth", and Big John stressed
that the root of the problem at the universities is the lack of staff
turnover and therefore a lack of fresh ideas, inducing stagnation.
Well, the CM4NEWS Publisher has noticed a completely opposite situation
at BNR: people leave the division before learning how to design quality
integrated circuits or how to write bug-free software programs.
