I like Saturn so much, I have 2 of them in my household (1992 SL1 and 1993 SL1).
When the times were tough and GM was losing tons of money, it was reported that the GM headquarters refused Saturn's request to develop a new line of Saturn. Now that GM is making money, I wonder if anything new is coming out.
I would like to request that a Saturn microvan be developed. If Honda Accord can do it, Saturn can do it better! Since my previous cars broke down and I had to replace them in 1993, I missed the opportunity to buy a Saturn Wagon. However, even the wagon would be a little too small for my family of 5. The regular minivans would be too large and energy inefficient if I drive alone.
Please note that I would be willing to participate in the conception of such a new vehicle as an executive consultant (unpaid, but gets an offer of a beta-testing vehicle).
As for my Saturns, the polymer body is just great since I am very prone to small collisions at grocery stores. One of my Saturns has scratches, but not a single dent! On the negative side, the door knobs are not insulated very well and it becomes uncomfortable at -35 degrees Celsius in Canada.
To whom it may concern
First of all, let me emphasise that Saturn is the BEST! I liked it so much that I bought 2 of them!
I have had a few problems. First of all, some of the plastic used in the interior have fallen apart. We have 3 small kids who tend to abuse the car, but the plastic seems to crack too easily, especially in cold weather.
For the 25 000 km inspection, 3 problems were identified.
a leak in power steering liquid
noise cushion around the engine
rusting brake shoe
I had only the leak fixed, and have not taken any action for the other 2 non-essential problems. I wonder if it is normal for a 3-year old car to develop these kinds of problems. Please note that even these problems don't compare with the myriad of problems I had with my previous Japanese imports, especially the rusting body.
I had to replace the headlights a couple of times, which was a very easy job to do myself. However, in the 1996 redesign, you seem to have introduced an extra set of headlights. I wonder if it is consistent with Saturn's philosophy of simplicity with minimum number of parts.
I hear that Saturn now has the responsibility of developing the EV-1. Do you plan to eventually market it in cold regions? I would not mind volunteering for field-testing the vehicle for Canadian weather. I somehow believe that an electric car powered by fuel cell with hydrogen would be the ultimate vehicle.
I attach the message I initially sent off to the Saturn Web site back in 1995. I really hope that Saturn would beat up the Honda Odyssey.
I am please to have found a direct connection to the Saturn Team. Please feel free to publish my opinions in any way.
