I have recently had an Excimer Laser Eye Surgery (LASIK), which requires me to wear eyeshields during my sleep in order to avoid rubbing the operated eyes unconsciously. While I was doing a nightly routine of taping up the eyeshields, I discovered that a rapid pulling motion to dispense the Scotch Tape in darkness causes consistent light to be emitted at the adhesive. Is this phenomenon purely due to static electricity, or are there any other mechanisms involved?
I have long dreamed of having a physical phenomenon named after me. Has this strange Scotch-Tape phenomenon been known or published before? If not, I would like my discovery to be known as "Sunatori's Scotch-Tape Luminescence". It would at least be an instant hit as a science experiment!
