I noticed the following in your article in The Futurist (June-July 1998).
Let's Broaden Our View of Cloning
Society at the turn of the millennium is poised on a threshold of incredible breakthroughs in physical and social evolution.
Although I claim to be a long-time futurist myself, I do not quite foresee "incredible breakthroughs" in a few years. Most of the technologies such as computers are "predictable evolutions" (Internet, speech recognition, etc.) rather than "incredible breakthroughs". The collapse of communism was indeed an "incredible breakthrough" which has already occurred. Globalisation is already happening, although some efforts have run into difficulties (e.g. MAI and Euro). Space Station Freedom (or whatever it is called now) was envisioned decades ago to be a reality by 1990. BTW, I hear that the Russian module would be replaced by a U.S. one.
The only "incredible breakthroughs" that I can think of are in biotechnology, such as telomeres therapy (unlimited lifetime) and body-switch (head transplant on a cloned body).
So, I would be very grateful if you care to elaborate your vision of the "incredible breakthroughs", perhaps in a few examples?
