The Earth's magnetic field is believed to fluctuate over the long term. Its polarity has even reversed periodically, i.e., every 100 000 years or so, although the cause of the reversals is not yet known.
The Earth's magnetic field protects the Earth's surface from the solar wind (ionised particles from the sun), which causes Aurora borealis in Northern hemisphere and Aurora australis in Southern hemisphere.
My hypothesis is that during the reversal period of the Earth's magnetic field when the strength of the magnetic field is close to 0 (zero), living organisms on the Earth receive very high doses of ionising radiation from the sun, making changes to the DNA sequences and causing mutations in living creatures. In the evolutionary time scale, these biological effects show up as non-linear quantum changes. This may well be the cause of the extinction of many species, including dinosaurs.
Has this kind of theory of evolution been known or published before? If not, I would like my hypothesis to be known as "Sunatori's Magnetic Evolution Theory".
