Until recently, I did not care much about this advocacy stuff. Reading a series of information packages, however, I have finally realised the necessity of such reorganisation to separate professional self-interest functions from a regulatory body.
What I fail to understand now is the need to create a new organisation Ontario Society for Professional Engineers (OSPE). Unlike regulation, engineering self-interest is Canada-wide. Wouldn't it make more sense to enrich the existing Canadian Society for Professional Engineers (CSPE) in order to advance the professional and economic interest of all professional engineers in Canada instead of creating a separate organisation for each province? Do associations of professional engineers in other provinces not wish to join in a strong united organisation? Physicians, dentists and lawyers all have provincial lobby groups.
