I would like to say that I was moved by the film, and to congratulate you for making it. I have not abandoned the idealism of a Just Society and Bilingualism, and have implemented these at a personal level in my own family. I hope the pendulum which went to the other side in 1995 will swing back to the side of individual rights.
I wonder if there has been any attempt to produce a documentary like "Contrast: The Other Side" depicting the contrast between the poor side of the First World (e.g., slums in U.S.) and the rich side of the Third World (e.g., luxury mansions in India).
Another idea is "Foreign Aid Fiascoes" documentary to depict how foreign aid cash (not necessarily Canadian) has been mismanaged to help build a gigantic cathedral and buy a private presidential jet in Africa, for example.
Provincial battles and Constitutional power struggles can be made into a parody "Fighting Like Kids Over Constitution". Real footages of debates can be interleaved with kids whining and fighting. The space-division technique would show 2 images (adults, children) at the same time, while the time-division technique would show 2 images (adults, children) one after another.
Speaking of a pendulum, I also have some ideas on explaining and correlating physical phenomena with social phenomena, along the line of Cosmic Zoom and Fields of Space.
social upheavals in pendulum swings
dust settling of aerosols
mergers and acquisitions versus mercury drops
hysteresis in a referendum: oscillation occurs if simple majority (1/2) is used to get in and out
thermodynamics (entropy) in history: unitary -> fragmentation
...
If you or anybody at NFB is interested in exploring such a documentary, I would be happy to develop and elaborate the concepts further.
P.S. I hope you will receive the dinner invitation soon.
