I am launching a research and development project "Canadian Ammonia Power". The goal is not to develop another type of fuel cells but to invent a compact device to reform liquid NH3 into H2 gas for use by PEM fuel cell stacks.
I would like to know if EcoLogo can be granted to such an ammonia fuel cell system. I believe that the system certainly has much superior environmental performance to anything else because the exhaust is not CO2 (greenhouse gas) but N2 and H2O.
In fact, I was surprised to read on the Green Power website that landfill gas and sewage digester gas are certified as Green Power. Even though these gases are indeed "natural", CH4 itself is a very potent greenhouse gas in addition to producing CO2 in combustion. NH3 is also naturally found (in urine), although its commercial manufacturing involves "artificial" processes.
