2004-02-01|Indication of Real Image versus Simulated Image
To the Producer
I appreciate Mars Daily in the Daily Planet programme. Technological progress has reached the point where spectacular high-resolution images taken by the Mars rovers and equally spectacular computer-generated images are almost indistinguishable. For example, it is often difficult and almost impossible for the viewers to determine whether an image of Spirit and that of Opportunity on the television set are real or not.
Therefore, I would like to suggest that all computer-simulated images be marked "Simulation", perhaps on the top left corner. Such a practice should apply not just to Mars stories but to any other situations where real images and simulated images may lead to confusion. Discovery Channel can maintain journalistic integrity, and set industry standards.
