When I poured liquid methanol into a wine glass and lit it up, a flame showed up OK, displaying a beautiful plasma.
The flame dances like aurora borealis/australis. I noticed that the centre of the flame is hollow, forming a donut-shaped flame. I believe that it is the effect of convection. The flame requires oxygen for combustion at the surface of methanol, causing the air to move downwards at the middle towards the surface of the liquid.
