2007-02-21|Australia to phase out old-style light bulbs
To the editor
In 2003, I changed all lighting fixtures inside the house to the simplest/cheapest possible ones at less than $1.50 CAD each, and changed all incandescent light bulbs to energy-efficient compact fluorescent lamps. I also changed all outside lights as well.
I am happy with the significant energy savings achieved so far, and I have had to replace only one fluorescent lamp over the last 4 years.
However, it is not a brilliant idea to ban the incandescent light bulbs because I need one as a heat source to operate my lava lamp.
When the LED lamp, which is even more efficient, becomes cost effective in a few years, the fluorescent lamps with poisonous mercury will have to be banned.
