Technical Approach
Title of Proposal:
Abating Malnutrition: PuckMeal™
Proposed Technical Approach:
The proposal is to develop "PuckMeal™: Hockey-Puck Shape & Size No-Mess Fun Snack-Meal Packed with Nutrition!" for abating malnutrition.
PuckMeal™ is shaped and sized exactly like a hockey puck.
National Hockey League (NHL) regulation
Thickness: 25.4 mm (exactly 1")
Diameter: 76.2 mm (exactly 3")
PuckMeal™ provides clean and neat eating experience.
PuckMeal™ provides defined amount of calories and nutrients.
PuckMeal™ contains vitamins and minerals.
PuckMeal™ contains protein and essential oil/fat (Omega-3 fatty acid).
PuckMeal™ contains anti-oxidants.
PuckMeal™ contains little saturated fat and no trans-fat hydrogenated oil.
PuckMeal™ requires no refrigeration, added water or cooking.
PuckMeal™ is coated with edible milk protein (casein) (replacement of wax on fruits). The protein-coated PuckMeal™ is water-resistant, so it is washable with water, just like an apple. The transparent casein film is air-tight and oxygen-resistant in order to prevent contamination by microbes/bacteria/germs. Maximum heat resistance and shelf-life stability will be achieved by pasturisation and/or irradiation processes.
PuckMeal™ can be piled up in a stack to form a "PuckTube™", 80 mm (3-1/8") in diameter. The transparent plastic tube packaging is re-sealable and re-usable, and is made of low-cost environmentally-friendly re-cyclable or bio-degradable plastic. PuckTube™ will be filled with nitrogen gas (N2) with positive pressure. Wasteful individual packaging will not be required.
PuckMeal™ contains chunks of real food for a variety of flavours (e.g., meat, fish, egg, cheese, vegetables, fruits, etc.). Thus, regional/local/cultural taste preferences can be easily accommodated in formulation. Eating experience resembles that of a pancake: Not melty, not greasy, not sticky, not crumbly, not too hard, not too soft, etc.
The amount of vitamins and minerals can be adjusted in order to reach the optimum level for sustaining healthy life without eating anything else.
