The Standard Time devised by Sir Sandford Fleming in 1884 has served well since the age of the Railways. However, it is high time that the confusing patchwork of Local Time Zones and Daylight Savings Times be supplanted by a single Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) in the age of the Global Village.

One minor surprise had been that the whole world was now on Universal Time: the confusing patchwork of Time Zones had been swept away by the advent of global communications.
