2009-05-11|Synthesis: An Interdisciplinary Discipline
To the editor
I would like to express my gratitude for your article in the Futurist magazine (May-June 2009).
Thanks to your explanation, I now know that I am a Type N person. I always had multidisciplinary approach, so I am a Synthesist according to your definition. In a large organisation, I was a source of annoyance and distraction both to the management and the other speciality peers, exactly as you described. Unfortunately, I was unable to survive in such an environment.
I have no network with like-minded individuals. So, I hope that your prediction will come true, i.e., natural Synthesists are expected to gain recognition as such and for enterprises to exploit those people's natural skills, aptitudes, and attitudes.
I agree with your observation that perhaps as many as 95 % of people are Type M. I have always thought that only 5 % of the population is capable of critical thinking and abstract reasoning.
