Technical Approach
Title of Proposal:
Development Partners for Rewritable 3D Hologram Applications: HoloStatue
Proposed Technical Approach:
The proposal is to develop "HoloStatue: Cylindrical Holographic Display Device" as a rewritable 3D hologram application.
A holographic display device for displaying a 3-dimensional image has a cylindrical casing and a horizontally-placed circular hologram in order to project an upright orthoscopic real image having both horizontal and vertical parallaxes. The hologram may be rotated by an electric motor in order to display all sides of the holographic image.
In conventional holographic display configurations, an orthoscopic real or virtual image is oriented parallel to the hologram. According to the present invention, a circular hologram has both horizontal and vertical parallaxes, and an orthoscopic real image is oriented perpendicular to the hologram.
Preferably, the circular hologram is computer-generated and has full colour. The holographic image may be overlaid with a real object having the same shape and size as the holographic image.
HoloStatue is best fitted with high-quality (high-margin) holograms. A voice/sound chip specific to a holographic image may be an attractive option.
With appropriate topics, HoloStatue has potential to be a super-megahit. First market could be restaurants and bars. Churches may wish to display religious figures (Jesus and angels are royalty-free!). Political parties may wish to sell it with statues of past presidents for fund-raising purposes.
Possible images and objects are listed below.
Jesus Christ, Virgin Mary (royalty-free) for churches and homes "Millennium Miracle"
Santa Claus, Angels, etc. (royalty-free) for Christmas, Easter
George Washington, Abraham Lincoln (royalty-free) for political fund raising
Statue of Liberty (royalty-free) for tourism
Star Trek characters (Paramount) for "Virtual Action Figures"
Star Wars characters (Lucasfilm) for "Phantom Action Figures"
Disney characters (Disney) for "Magic Action Figures"
Pokémon characters (Nintendo) for "GameBoy Action Figures"
Sports characters (NFL, NHL, etc.)
...
Targetted product fields include educational materials with 3D displays of objects, virtual exhibits in museums, scientific toys, 3D advertisements, etc.
