2010-07-16|Canada's Next Generation Fighter Capability
To the Editor
In 2010-07, the Government of Canada announced that it is acquiring the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) F-35, a 5th generation fighter jet, to replace its 4th generation fleet of CF-18s, which are expected to reach the end of their operational life in the 2017-2020 timeframe. Delivery of the new aircraft is expected to start in 2016.
By that time, an Unpersonned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) will become capable of surveillance and interception in the Arctic. Even now, a drone, which is a remotely piloted vehicle has great capability not only for surveillance but also for bombing as well at great accuracy and precision.
Therefore, why not opt for the Unpersonned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) instead of the Joint Strike Fighter F-35 Lightning II?
