2016-04-13|Scotia Online: Change Your Account Type
To whom it may concern
In order to change my account type from "Scotia Power Savings Account" to "Basic Banking Plan", I clicked "Change Your Account Type" and followed the instructions in Scotia Online. After I completed the process, the account type showed "New Account Type: Basic Banking Plan" on the confirmation webpage, just as I had intended. So far, so good.
Since Scotia Online showed "Basic Banking" instead of "Basic Banking Plan", I called 1-800-4SCOTIA. To my astonishment, the agent told me that the account type was "Basic Banking Account" instead of "Basic Banking Plan", meaning that I would have to pay the Monthly Fee of $3.95 CAD/month, and there was no "Fee WAIVED with minimum $2 500 CAD daily closing balance". After 30 minutes of struggle, the agent was finally able to switch the account from "Basic Banking Account" to "Basic Banking Plan". However, something is obviously broken in Scotia Online.
It is also disturbing that I cannot change the Pre-Authorized Payment account for Scotiabank VISA in Scotia Online. I was told to visit a branch, while I was able to change the Pre-Authorized Payment account quickly on-line for Bank of Montreal MasterCard and also for Capital One MasterCard.
Thank you very much for your attention.
To whom it may concern
Despite the agent's assurance that the account was properly converted to "Basic Banking Plan", I was shocked to notice the following in the Transaction History.
April 30, 2016
Service Charge
MONTHLY FEES
$9.95
I immediately called Scotia Online, and the agent admitted that it was because of the initial erroneous conversion from "Scotia Power Savings Account" to "Basic Banking Account". They quickly reversed the charges, but it was very frustrating and stressful...
