1. Where would the automotive industry and next generation smart cars be in a decade from today?
GPS navigation devices have become ubiquitous, built into most new cars.
Head-Up Displays (HUD) are becoming increasingly available in production cars. They offer speedometer, tachometer, and navigation system displays on the windshield.
2. What are the key obstacles on the way that we need to overcome?
However, today's HUD displays show only limited navigation data such as instruction arrows. The full map data on the GPS receiver units are not shown. The goal is to have a "hybrid" view in which full GPS information is overlaid with the real view instead of the satellite map in Apple Maps and Google Maps.
3. What technological advancements has to happen before your prediction become a reality?
The accuracy of GPS should improve in order to avoid mismatches between the display and the real view. Also, there should be a method to adjust the projected image to the curvature of the windshield of each model of automobiles. Auto-calibration would be ideal.
