2016-10-21|Keep the Queen on our $20 bill permanently
To whom it may concern
Since I support the movement towards a Canadian Republic, I would never have thought of saying this, but I support keeping the Queen on the bills permanently to save taxpayers's money. Even though Canada may not sever its ties with the monarchy in the next half-century, it is unlikely that banknotes will survive that long.
I wrote in 1994: "Ever since the debit card was introduced, the cashless society is almost a reality for me. I use credit/debit cards and direct payment/deposit for almost everything but the following which don't yet accept them: parking, MacDonald's, Burger King and the daycare centre."
22 years later, parking, MacDonald's and Burger King all take credit/debit cards now. My kids have grown to be out of the daycare centres. So, I use bills once in 2 years or less, and coins about 2 times a year to inflate tires.
The federal government can help achieve cashless society by taxing the use of cash, which can also discourage the untaxed underground economy, just as I proposed back in 1994.
