2017-04-04|Sunatori's Temporarily Flipping Plastic Container by Rotation
Potential Discovery or Invention
I am rotating a plastic container of a cosmetic product. It has a flat bottom and a pointy top, and the bottom half is heavier than the top half. I have noticed that when I rotate the plastic container on a flat surface of a table with the pointy top down, it rotates around the vertical axis as expected. After a brief moment, it automatically flips and rotates on the side with the pointed top not touching the flat surface. Subsequently, it reverts back to rotating around the vertical axis with the pointy top down again. I believe that it is a case of excessive angular momentum causing an unexpected result.
