Find out how scientists are conducting research 8,000 miles below the Earth's surface in an abandoned South Dakota mine.
The article itself on OFFICE of ENERGY EFFICIENCY & RENEWABLE ENERGY's website correctly says "Mining efforts left behind more than 370 miles of tunnels down to 8,000 feet below the Earth's surface.", so the error is only in the e-mail message's headline. Maybe using Copy & Paste and the ISO metric system could help prevent such confusion in future?
