WHEREAS The current process of obtaining and using a monitor to assess an EIT's competency and experience is not feasible for many EITs trying to obtain licensure in emerging fields like Software Engineering;
WHEREAS These fields are rapidly changing and highly competitive, and many companies would not be comfortable with allowing an outside P.Eng. to observe an EIT in the office for 30 hours per month as part of the current monitor program, that is, if one were even available nearby; and WHEREAS These companies are not likely to offer any support to the monitor, even petty transportation cost, because they do not require a P.Eng. due to the industrial exemption which exists only in Ontario; THEREFORE BE IT SUBMITTED THAT Section "2.5.2 Role of the Monitor as Referee" (Page 6) of document "Guide to the Required Experience for Licensing as a Professional Engineer in Ontario" be amended to replace 5. iii) he/she will commit to being in the work location of the EIT at least 30 hours each month. with 5. iii) he/she will commit to:

WHEREAS The current process of finding a monitor to assess an EIT's competency and experience is not easy for many EITs trying to obtain licensure;
THEREFORE BE IT SUBMITTED THAT PEO Member Directories be updated to include extra field "willing to be a guide/monitor" in order to facilitate the EIT to coordinate with the PEO to find a suitable guide/monitor for approval. |
