I am a big fan of Mini Babybel cheese. So, I am excited to hear that a new plant is being built in QC, Canada.

The distinguishing feature of Mini Babybel cheese is the iconic paraffin wax wrapping in RED. I once ingested it by mistake, but was relieved by the following FAQ answer.

What is Mini Babybel®'s wax made of?

The wax we use to coat our products is made of a blend of paraffin and microcrystalline waxes and colouring, which specifically contains no Bisphenol A. It's "food safe" and meets very strict regulatory standards. It poses no health risk if accidentally ingested.

In addition to the paraffin-wax coating, Mini Babybel cheese is individually wrapped in plastic, i.e., double-wrapped over-packaging. Since the cheese is already protected, the plastic wrapping is completely redundant and unnecessary. If the plastic wrapping were eliminated, multiple pieces of Mini Babybel cheese would not stick together since the melting point of paraffin wax is 75 C.
The plastic wrapping says only "Babybel" and a flavour. These inscriptions can be made by embossing or laser engraving or food-grade inkjet printing on the paraffin-wax coating, just as the expiration date is printed on individual eggs.
