While passing a lawn mower, my engineer/mathematician/computer scientist son François and my professional artist daughter Véronique found a giant puffball mushroom in a yard. Calvatia gigantea (earlier classified as Lycoperdon giganteum) reaches 300 mm or more in diameter. It is commonly found in meadows, fields, and deciduous forests usually in late summer and autumn.
Here is a giant puffball mushroom that my geological engineer/exploration geologist daughter Évelyne also found.
