Re: Why we should adopt 'waste-to-energy' (2023-01-07)
Incineration or plasma gasification is proposed as a promising solution to the city's waste problem. It can go one step further, combining a greenhouse with the incinerator or plasma reactor. Canadian Patent (CA2289991 C) teaches an integrated power generation plant and greenhouse comprising a power generation plant having a thermal engine and an electric generator, and at least one greenhouse for growing plants such as fruits and vegetables by a photosynthesis process. The fuel for the power generation plant may be a biomass fuel or a fossil fuel according to the patent, but it can be garbage. Exhaust gas goes through a scrubber system. Plants may be grown aeroponically or hydroponically in a dome-shaped greenhouse. Oxygen is released to the atmosphere from the greenhouse. The Canadian patent has expired, so the technology can be freely practised without any royalty payment.
So, "Integrated Power Generation Plant and Greenhouse" is a truly efficient and environmentally sensible green solution to an ugly problem.
