2023-06-12|iPhone Battery Repair & Replacement under AppleCare+
To whom it may concern
I went to Apple Store (Rideau Centre) in Ottawa, ON, Canada, to have iPhone Battery Repair & Replacement done. Genius Bar's technician was extremely competent and skilled to run diagnostics on my iPhone 12. However, he had to reject my request because of Apple's strict policy of not replacing battery under AppleCare+ if Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging > (Maximum Capacity > 80 %).
Although he recognised steep discharge curve while I was cycling for 6 hours, i.e., no media consumption (e.g., Apple TV+, Netflix, YouTube, etc.), my iPhone's Maximum Capacity was 82 %. This measure is not very reliable! For example, the battery of my engineer/mathematician/computer scientist son François's old iPhone 8 had Maximum Capacity of 81 %, but the fully-charged battery completely discharged in less than 2 hours.
Next day, I received e-mail message "How was your experience?", so I filled out the on-line form to express my concern and dismay. I promptly received a courtesy telephone call from the technician's supervisor at Apple Store (Rideau Centre). Once again, I expressed my concern and dismay, but she could not take any action, either.
Please re-consider Apple's strict protocol with such 1-dimensional analysis (80 %) in favour of taking other factors such as the steepness of the gradient (slope) of battery's discharge curve, AppleCare+ usage history (i.e., abuse or not), etc. into consideration for battery replacement.
