Potential Discovery or Invention
Here is a double rainbow captured in Gatineau, QC, Canada. A double rainbow happens when sunlight is reflected twice inside raindrops.
Primary rainbow
: brighter, with RED on the outside and VIOLET on the inside.
Secondary rainbow
: fainter and above the primary rainbow, with the colours reversed - VIOLET on the outside and RED on the inside.
For a double rainbow, the colour order is reversed between the 2 arcs.
Primary rainbow (lower/brighter arc)
RED -> ORANGE -> YELLOW -> GREEN -> BLUE -> VIOLET
RED is on the outside/top of this arc.
VIOLET is on the inside/bottom.
Dark region
The area between the 2 rainbows is noticeably darker (Alexander's band).
Secondary rainbow (upper/fainter arc)
VIOLET -> BLUE -> GREEN -> YELLOW -> ORANGE -> RED
The colours are reversed.
VIOLET is on the inside/bottom.
RED is on the outside/top.
